Activities

September 2. 6 p.m. Free weekly jazz concerts at LACMA. This week: Michael Session Sextet. BP Grand Entrance. No reservations needed.

September 3. 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Latin Sounds in Hancock Park. (Free event every Saturday 5 pm–7 pm, May through September). This week: Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca in Hancock Park north of the museum.

September 4. 6 p.m. FREE weekly concerts at LACMA. (Los Angles County Museum of Art). This week: Salastina Music Society and Baritone Rod Gilfry. These one-hour concerts are presented free to the public on Sundays in the Leo S. Bing Theater. If you don’t make it there, you can also listen online for free at: http://www.lacma.org/programs/SundaysLive.aspx#audio

September 5. 12–8 pm. Target Free Holiday Monday at LACMA.
Join us for a free day at the museum (all day) and enjoy a live performance by La Santa Cecilia. La Santa Cecilia, named after the patron saint of musicians, is a hybrid band influenced by Latin culture, rock and world music. Hear them perform live on the museum’s plaza at 12:30 and 2:45 p.m. join a bilingual tour of the modern Latin American art and more. (Note: does not include free admission to the Tim Burton exhibition or any specially ticketed exhibitions. To ensure a safe and pleasant visitor experience tickets to the Boone Children's Gallery on Target Free Holiday Monday will be timed and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Pick up your free timed ticket in the Boone Children's Gallery on the day of the event. Timed tickets allow for a thirty minute visit).

September 6. 9:30 a.m. L.A. Kids free sports and crafts program sign up at Winnetka Park. I’m going early to sign my boys up for classes. Here’s a link if you’d like to read more about the program or find a participating park near you: http://www.laparks.org/lakids/class.htm

September 6. Free day for La Brea Tar Pits and the Natural History Museum. (Free admission also on September 13, 20 and 27!)

September 6. No free evening at Kidspace Museum. Kidspace will be closed from September 6 through September 10 for maintenance; reopening on Sunday, September 11.

September 6. 5 p.m. FREE LEGO® mini model build at the Glendale Galleria LEGO store, the first Tuesday of each month. One free per child. Event is open to children ages 6 to 14 only. (I brought my 5 year old and he was able to complete the build without a problem). 2148 Glendale Galleria, Glendale, 91210. (818) 549-0733. Make sure to get there early (we arrived around 4:30) and bring snacks and things to do while you wait in line.

September 6. The Regency Valley Plaza 6 in North Hollywood offers movies for $1.50 all day on Tuesdays! $3 any other day. 6355 Bellingham Ave. North Hollywood, CA 91606. (818) 760-8400. September 6-10. Chick Fil-A free breakfast deal. You need to register ahead of time (it’s been down because of so many people trying to register) then show up at your local Chick-fil-A during your designated time for breakfast.

September 7. Free movie at Santa Monica Place. Enjoy Classic Favorites under the Stars Wednesdays at 7pm on the Dining Deck, Level 3. Movies are shown in their original, unedited format. This week: Breakfast at Tiffany's. It is first come first serve, these showings are free. Feel free to bring your own blankets, chairs, food, etc. Santa Monica, CA 90401. (310) 260-8333
